I WAS a Victim of Bullying & Strategies to Eliminate it.
I myself was the victim of bullying, often teased for my obesity. I can still hear fellow students taunting: "Fatty fatty two by four, can't get through the kitchen door." It resulted in me practicing self-abuse.

As a teacher, I believe one must be very sensitive to bullying, and call out any such behavior, cognizant of the fact that teachers and aides and bus drivers, etc. can be bullies as well. I have several stories of teachers who bully. My jock strap story well illustrates how cruel teachers can be. This story is often times remembered the most as I know laughing, which you will do a lot of during this story, is the best "sugar" to help the medicine go down.

As for strategies, I am a great believer in character education and have had a lot of contact with groups promoting character education. It must be incorporated throughout all the curriculum to be truly effective. The best strategy for stopping bullying is to get everyone to take a close look at themselves and do a self-evaluation.
